Over 115 Years of Quality Catholic Education

St. Louis School is a fully accredited member of the
New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Our average class size is 25-30 students. Our total enrollment is approximately 230 students. Our students wear uniforms. Bus transportation is available for Webster residents.

Striving for Excellence describes the Academic Program at St. Louis School. Teachers, parents, staff, and of course the students, work together to develop optimum intellectual and spiritual growth for the children.

Our full-day kindergarten program starts our children out on a learning adventure. Typical lessons include math, and phonics. Actual reading lessons begin in Kindergarten. The Spalding method of phonics provides the fundamentals necessary for a very successful reading program. Children are also introduced to science and social studies, as well as art, music and storytelling.

This educational process is enhanced and added to grades 1, 2 and 3 which build a strong foundation as a preparation for the middle grades.

Projects are begun in grade 4 and continued in grade 5 on an individual basis. Students in grades 4 and 5 receive the benefit of specialized instruction for English, Social Studies, Science and Math. Homeroom teachers facilitate the lessons for the remaining curriculum. Participation in the bi-annual Science Fair begins in grade 5.

The 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes at St. Louis incorporate many creative learning experiences in their curriculum. Projects emphasizing both team and individual efforts are an important part of Junior High academics.

Accelerated Reader Program

Students in grades 1 through 8 participate in this program with the guidance of their teacher and the school library staff. This program motivates students to read at their own level and challenges them to aim higher for the next level. The program is designed to promote a life-long love of reading.

Sr. Daniel Maria Library

We have a well-equipped and well-used library/media center. Students use the library for book selection, quiet reading time, and research for their projects. All students visit the library on a weekly basis for library instruction. There is a conventional card catalogue and an automated card catalogue in addition to other technological tools for the children to use in selecting materials. The library contains over 5,500 catalogued books.

Technology

Technology is the way of the 21st century and St. Louis students will be prepared to use technology tools. St. Louis School has maintained a computer lab for many years. iMac computers are in grades 1 through 8 and are used by the students for special projects, Accelerated Reader lessons, and the school newspaper produced by the 7th and 8th grade classes. All students attend weekly Computer Skills classes provided by an outside company.

Music

Music is also an important part of the St. Louis environment. Music instruction is provided for all students weekly. Musical productions are developed and performed for family enjoyment at the annual Christmas Pageant, Spring Concert and the bi-annual Junior High Drama Production.

Physical Education

Weekly Physical Education classes are part of the St. Louis academic program for all students from Kindergarten through grade 8. A qualified Physical Education teacher is contracted to facilitate the classes.

Field Trips

Field trips annually complement the educational activities of the school. Students visit museums and science centers, attend plays and have the opportunity for "non-travel" field trips where educational presentations come to the school. The high-light of St. Louis field trips is the tour to Washington, D.C. planned every other year for the 7th and 8th grade classes.

St. Louis School is open to all children regardless of religious belief, race, or nationality. Catholic Faith values taught at St. Louis can be beneficial to all children. The Religious Education Department of St. Louis Parish provides many programs open to our students.
